Meet the Owner
Welcome to A Joyful Spirit...Reiki and Gifts to Soothe Your Soul!  I am so happy you chose to browse my site.

I am a loving wife and mom of two handsome teenage boys and one beautiful step-daughter.  I adore animals and have my fair share of sweet dogs, a rat and plenty of fish. Someday, I  hope to live in the mountains again, where I can finally make my dream of owning a horse come true!  I have been a teacher for 19 years, most of which have been in Douglas County Public Schools.  Throughout these 19 years I have spent most of my time in 1st grade, with five years in kindergarten and a couple of years in a 1-2 combo class and 3rd grade.  I am a total people person and love to learn and help others learn, so I was lucky enough to spend two years in a primary school as a staff developer and mentor to new teachers.  I received my Masters degree in Elementary Reading and Literacy in 2005.  I also have my certification in CLIP, which is a reading intervention program closely related to Reading Recovery.

In April of 2010, my whole life as I knew it changed and my walls came tumbling down.  My youngest son, Austin, then 14 years old was diagnosed with cancer.  He only had about three months to live without chemo.  I turned to Reiki to help manage my stress and make life bearable again.

As the mom of a child with a rare form of stage 4 cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma, I found that EVERYTHING in life changed .  I developed a new sense of "normal" and I often wondered how I would make it through each and every day. I wondered if I would see my child smile again. I worried that he wouldn't wake up in the morning. I learned never to take little things for granted anymore and I began to find joy in every little thing I could.

My son is in remission now!  These days there are so many "little" things that bring me happiness...the sneezing panda on YouTube, the scent of The Naked Bee orange blossom honey lotion, learning to ride a long board, watching my oldest son play his guitar, singing silly songs with my husband, giving Reiki, etc.  I feel that helping my teenage son survive cancer has helped me to learn so much about life. There are SO MANY things to be thankful for and to find joy in.

I created A Joyful Spirit to inspire others to see the world as the amazing place that it is.  I am taking this opportunity to spread happiness by sharing fun products that make me smile, giggle and laugh, and I hope they will do the same for you!  In addition, I have become a Reiki Master in order to promote relaxation and healing. I am also working on becoming a Healing Touch Practitioner and learning Yoga!
I can't wait to share "A Joyful Spirit" with you!

Smiles...
