Reiki
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is an ancient Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. Reiki energy is healing to the mind, body and soul.

Reiki is one of the oldest healing methods known to mankind.  It originated in Tibet and was rediscovered in the early 1900s by a Japanese monk named Dr. Mikao Usui.  The Usui System of Natural Healing, named after Dr. Usui, has been passed down by Reiki Masters since that time and is now practiced world-wide. Reiki is a very powerful and simple technique that can be easily learned by anyone.  It is becoming more widely accepted and used by many doctors and surgeons in hospitals around the world as a way to treat the whole body before and after a major medical procedure. Studies have shown that patients who receive Reiki before and after heart surgery, as well as other major surgeries, recover more quickly and are less stressed than patients who do not receive Reiki.

The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words - Rei and Ki.
Simply put, Rei means Spiritual Wisdom.  It is interpreted to mean higher knowledge or spiritual consciousness.  Ki means Life Energy.  It is also known as the vital life force or universal life force.  Reiki can therefore be defined as spiritually guided life energy.  The energy goes where it is needed, not where the practitioner guides it to go.  It is not a religion, so there is no belief system needed.  Reiki energy will work whether you believe in it or not.

Reiki is able to heal in many ways and on many levels.  While pure relaxation is what Reiki is most known for, it also provides help and healing for simple things like bee stings, stomachaches, headaches, sore muscles, the common cold, etc.  It can also help with major illnesses and conditions such as heart disease, cancer, arthritis, etc.  Reiki does not cure, but rather heals.  It should not be used in place of medical attention.  It provides holistic healing to the mind, body and soul and should be used complementary to regular medical practices.  Reiki is always safe and does not need to be limited in its use.

As you explore and experience Reiki, you may find that your inner-self remains at peace for longer periods of time.  You may feel more joyful and relaxed and more open to experiencing true happiness.  Pain you have had for years may decrease or disappear altogether, your blood pressure may decrease, headaches may go away, and you may find it easier to sleep.  Your life may begin to change in beautiful ways.  Your friendships, relationships, employment, income and general well-being may be strengthened.  In the beginning, you may experience what many practitioners call a healing crisis.  When the negative energy in your body is being replaced by positive, more healthy energy, your body releases toxins and thought patterns that are no longer useful.  You should drink plenty of water, eat lightly and get plenty of rest while this process happens.  You may even experience different changes in your emotions temporarily.  Be sure to pay attention if you begin to feel depressed, sad, clingy, etc for unknown reasons.  You can bet that your body is healing and releasing unwanted toxins during this period of "healing distress."  Know that it is due to the new and improved energy that is making its way through your system and the changing feelings are only going to be with you for a short time.  You may not notice any changes at all, but be assured that the Reiki energy IS working!  Notice the way you begin to look at even the smallest of lessons that you are presented with in your life every day.  You may even be inspired to learn to give yourself and others Reiki.  We all have this beautiful energy in us!

A Reiki session can be delivered either while sitting upright in a chair or while laying on a massage table.  I prefer to lie down in order to completely feel relaxed as I drift away into my private world when I receive Reiki.  Reiki is given while the client is fully clothed.  A Reiki practitioner should never request that you undress for a healing session.

I hope this has given you some insight into what Reiki healing is all about.  I have found so much joy in becoming a Reiki Master.  I can't wait to share Reiki with you!
